Growing up in England, I was surrounded by the ceremony of the British Royal Family—its processions, traditions, historic armor, and elaborate fashions. Those images have remained with me, not as subjects to recreate, but as a visual language that continues to shape my work.

In these ceramic sculptures, the female figure merges with the language of fashion, ornament, and armor until they become inseparable. I carve the clay much as a couturier or jeweler builds a garment—layer by layer—until decoration becomes part of the figure itself rather than something simply worn. Clothing becomes skin. Ornament becomes structure. Beauty becomes strength.

Clay is transformed by fire, carrying the marks of heat, ash, and time. Like the body, it records experience. The title Royal Armature speaks not only to the ceremonial traditions that inspired these sculptures, but also to the hidden framework that supports every figure. Beneath every visible surface lies an inner structure. For me, these sculptures are reflections on the resilience women carry within themselves—the quiet architecture of identity, vulnerability, and endurance.
