Royal Armature documents British-born artist Mandy Henson’s 2026 solo exhibition at Gallery Wave in New York City.
Inspired by the ceremony, historic armor, elaborate fashion, and traditions of the British Royal Family, Henson’s ceramic sculptures merge the female figure with ornament, clothing, and armor. Carved and built layer by layer, the works explore how decoration can become structure, clothing can become skin, and beauty can become a form of strength.
Through clay transformed by fire, heat, and ash, Royal Armature reflects on the inner structures that support us and the resilience women carry within themselves: an architecture of identity, vulnerability, and endurance.
